How to remove the background from a video
You don't need a green screen any more. AI person segmentation finds you in every frame, so you can remove the background, blur it, or replace it with an image or colour, straight from a video shot in an ordinary room.

Method 1: on your computer, no green screen (PandaStudio)
- Import or record your video in PandaStudio and open it in the editor.
- Open the Video tab and find Video Effects (or click the + on the timeline's overlay row).
- Choose Remove background or Blur background. A region appears on the timeline.
- Drag the region's edges to set when it starts and ends. It can cover the whole video or just one section, like a zoom.
- For Remove, choose what goes behind you: an image, a colour, a gradient, or a timed image for just that stretch.
- Export. The segmentation runs on your machine, and the export matches the preview.

Method 2: online background removers
Web tools, and the background remover features in CapCut and Canva, are quick for a short clip: upload, wait, download. The trade-offs are that your video goes to their servers, free tiers often limit length or resolution or add a watermark, and some can export a transparent video if that's what you need.
Method 3: pro editors
- DaVinci Resolve: Magic Mask tracks a person for keying and effects (a Studio feature).
- Premiere Pro and After Effects: AI masking and rotoscoping tools give the most control, with the most manual work.
- Green screen: if you can shoot on one, a chroma key still gives the cleanest hair and edges in any editor.
Tips for clean edges
- Light your face and body evenly; shadows on the wall confuse the model.
- Wear colours that contrast with the wall behind you.
- Sit a metre or more from the background, not against it.
- Avoid fast arm movements near the frame edge, where motion blur is hardest.
- If edges still distract, a blur often looks more natural than a full replacement.

Can I remove a video background without a green screen?

Why do my hair and edges look blurry or flicker?
Fine hair, fast movement, motion blur and a background close to your clothing colour are the hardest cases for any AI. Light yourself evenly, avoid busy backgrounds that match your clothes, and keep a little distance from the wall.
