Produce a podcast show: producer seat, backstage and talkback

Since PandaStudio 2.1.50, the podcast studio can be run by a producer who is never on air: the host joins by their own link, guests wait backstage, the producer talks privately in anyone's ear, and only the people on stage are in the stream, the recording and the edit.

Every person in a PandaStudio podcast has a role (producer, host, guest or caller) and a stage: on stage, the audience gets them; backstage, they don't. In Setup, under Who runs the show, choose I'm producing and the studio desktop becomes the producer's seat: you run the recording, scenes, graphics, guests and the stream, and you are never shown, heard or recorded unless you click Step on stage. The show's host joins from the host link (Invite in the People column), lands on stage, and gets a panel with the run of show (the current segment, its questions and the time left), your cue cards, and Hold to talk to the producer, which only the producers hear. Guests and callers arrive backstage; guests can watch the show while they wait, callers wait in silence unless you change it in Options. Hold Talk next to anyone to speak privately in their ear, or Talk to everyone on stage; it never reaches the stream or the recording. Up next queues a backstage guest so they hear the show and see the cue. With Give the host control on, the host can also start and stop the recording, bring people on or move them backstage and go to the next segment from their page; graphics and going live stay with you. A second producer can join from a browser with the producer link: they see and hear everyone, talk privately, queue guests, send the host cues, drop clip and chapter markers and approve the AI producer's suggestions, and they are never on stage. Recording follows the stage: everyone on stage records from the start of the take, everyone else from their first time on stage, and while someone is backstage their recording keeps silence. When you open the episode in the editor, the host is the main track, everyone lines up from when they came on, and the layout shows only who was on stage at each moment. Shows bring this to agencies: on the Podcasts page, a show is a series in the workspace (your client) with its producer or host, the host's control, the edit's look and what to deliver after each episode. Raw files (each person's own recording, named by who they are, and the live program) are copied to the show's folder as soon as an episode is recorded, and the edit, an MP3, Shorts and a YouTube upload run as a delivery routine.

In the app

  1. 1Open the podcast studio. In Setup, under Who runs the show, click I'm producing.
  2. 2In the People column, click Invite and copy the Host link for the show's host. Copy the guest link for guests, and the Producer link for anyone producing with you from another computer.
  3. 3When guests arrive backstage, hold Talk next to them for a word in their ear, click Up next to queue them, and Bring on stage when it's their turn.
  4. 4Hold Talk to everyone on stage on your own card to speak to the host and guests together. Step on stage puts you in the show if you need to cover.
  5. 5Click Record only or Go live. Only the people on stage are streamed and recorded.
  6. 6For a series, open Podcasts in the sidebar, click New show, choose A producer, the host and what to deliver after each episode, then schedule episodes from the show.

Ask the AI

Open the AI chat in the editor and say any of these. The agent does the edits for you.

“I'm producing this one: switch the studio to producer mode and give me the host link.”
“Bring Marcus on stage.”
“Tell the host to wrap up in two minutes.”
“Create a show called Founder Stories, produced, hosted by Priya, delivering raw files and three Shorts to my Clients folder.”
