Close or fill gaps on the timeline in PandaStudio

Right-click an empty gap on PandaStudio's timeline, or Shift-drag across a range, to close it in one step or fill it with a graphic, B-roll or an idea from the AI agent.

A gap is an inserted pause on the main track, or an empty stretch in one of the rows above it. Close gap removes it as a single undo step. On the main track the range comes out of the video and everything after it moves back, with captions and anchored graphics staying on their words; inserted pauses inside the range are shortened or removed rather than cutting footage. On a graphics, media or audio row the range has to be empty, and every later item in that row slides left by its length. The same menu can fill the gap instead: ask the agent for an idea, start a graphic there, or drop in B-roll sized to the range.

In the app

  1. 1Right-click an empty gap on the timeline. To pick an exact span, hold Shift and drag across the timeline first, then right-click inside the selection.
  2. 2Choose Close gap to remove it. A message confirms how many seconds were closed, and one undo puts it back.
  3. 3Choose Suggest something here to open the AI chat with that moment: what is said before, during and after it, and what already sits nearby. The agent proposes one or two ideas and asks you before it changes anything or generates images.
  4. 4Choose Add graphic here to open the Graphics tab with the playhead at the gap. The graphic you add starts at the gap.
  5. 5Choose Add B-roll here and pick a file. A still picture becomes a B-roll beat (full frame with a slow push-in, 1.4 to 4 seconds); a video or animated image covers the frame for exactly the range.

Ask the AI

Open the AI chat in the editor and say any of these. The agent does the edits for you.

“Close the gap between 0:42 and 0:44 on the main track.”
“There's an empty stretch in the graphics row after the intro, close it up.”
“Suggest B-roll or a graphic for the pause at 1:10, and ask me before adding anything.”

CLI & MCP

Every capability is a verb, reachable from the terminal or from an MCP agent (Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, Continue, Claude Desktop).

project.close-gap
pandastudio project.close-gap --id=$ID --startMs=42000 --endMs=44000

No lane (or lane=main): removes the range from the video. Times are edited milliseconds.

project.close-gap
pandastudio project.close-gap --id=$ID --startMs=2500 --endMs=4000 --lane=media:0

lane media[:i], audio[:i] or effects[:i]: the range must be empty in that row; later items move left. A range that is not empty fails and changes nothing.

project.add-broll
pandastudio project.add-broll --id=$ID --imagePath=/path/to/photo.jpg --atMs=70000 --durationMs=2000

What Add B-roll here does for a still picture. durationMs is 1400 to 4000.
